Candle Burning & Safety Tips
ˇ
Its best NOT
to trim the wick when lighting your soy candle for the first time. For natural
wicks it is normal to notice some "mushrooming" at the top of the wick. Trim
your wick to 1/4" to 1/2" and discard before re-lighting.
ˇ
Re-trim the
wick before every use.
ˇ
Place
candles on a heat resistant, dry surface away from anything that can catch fire
and out of reach of children, pets & drafts.
ˇ
Burn candles
in a draft free area clear of combustible material such as curtains, books,
baskets, etc.
ˇ
Glass and
tin containers may become hot so be very careful if you should have to move your
candle in any way. Its best NOT to move a burning candle.
ˇ
A good
indication that the wick is too long is that your soy candle may begin to
smoke... that's why its best to keep the wick trimmed.
ˇ
Allowing
candles to burn until a complete melt pool has formed all the way across the jar
or tin will prevent tunneling. Never throw matches into the melt pool of your
candle.
Discontinue use of candle when 1/4" of wax remains. Allowing the candle to burn
until no liquid remains will cause excessive heat and may cause glass to break.
ˇ
Do not place
the lid on a candle container to extinguish the flame.
ˇ
NEVER leave
lit candles unattended while burning.
